It is now clear: Once again, Donald Trump will be the president of the United States.
Anger, frustration, fear, disappointment and despair. These are words we heard as the results of this election came in. These are true and these are real. But they do not define us.
If there is one important lesson from this election, it is this: we have work to do. Building a better world is up to us. It is up to us the communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis, anti-Blackness, anti-immigration, and poverty. It is up to us to reimagine democracy rooted in solidarity and justice. We must lead this country in a bold new direction. While the election results say one thing, we know that the power and vision of the frontlines demand another. We hold a vision of liberation for all of us to live, rest and thrive. For us to get there, we must come together to build and invest in the frontlines for our present and our future.
At Taproot Earth, we are doubling down on our commitment to invest in community leadership to strengthen the collective processes that have been sorely lacking in this country. We are building collective stewardship of water, energy, and land to make sure that all people have what they need to live, let alone thrive, and stand up against the continued extraction and exploitation that is to come. We are building power together with frontline communities from the Gulf South to Appalachia to the Global South to show that the world demands better from our leaders. Global climate reparations and a deep commitment to each other as people, and to the planet, is the only vision for the future.
We know this election made political promises of retribution, violence, and a complete divestment from climate justice. But we believe in the power of the frontlines and the collective wisdom, strength, and vision towards a different way. While it can be hard to see, we must hold on tightly to the faith that we can be better. We know this because every day we witness beautiful things happening on the frontlines. Let this be our guiding path toward Black Liberation and Indigenous Sovereignty. Let this guide our hearts, minds, and souls as we build, protect, and care for each other.
